Christmas is here, and you know what that means — partying with friends and family, eating delicious holiday food, getting presents, and of course, Christmas songs! I don’t know about you but for me, the songs make the holiday! Especially considering the fact that my family doesn’t really celebrate Christmas, and yet, whenever I hear a Christmas song play, I feel completely drawn into the festivities!
Now I think of myself as quite the melophile, plus, I’m a child of the internet… a place where we love to list things… do you see where I’m going with this?
1. Jingle Bell Rock — Bobby Helms
I couldn’t think of a better way to kick off this list than with this classic tune (might have something to do with the fact that I’m a die-hard fan of Mean Girls.)
2. White Christmas — The Drifters
I can always bank on this song to make me feel like I’m sitting beneath a lush Christmas tree on a snowy day, next to a toasty fire with a cup of hot chocolate in my hand — even though I’ve never even seen snow in the flesh.
3. Santa Claus Is Coming To Town — Jackson 5
Nothing like this groovy tune (with an epic bass line) to get you in the mood for the holidays!
4. I Won’t Be Home For Christmas — Blink 182
If you’re the kind that isn’t buying into all that Christmas cheer, this pop-punk rendition of a Christmas song by Blink 182 will help you get through the holidays.
5. Santa Baby — Eartha Kitt
I’m not going to lie, this is one Christmas song that I can listen to any time of year because of just how dreamy it is.
6. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays — NSYNC
This song is an amalgamation of the two things that people love — Christmas and 90s boy bands! Who hasn’t bobbed their head along to this guilty pleasure at least once?
7. I Wish It Was Christmas Today — Julian Casablancas
If you’re someone who can’t wait for Christmas day to come around (or you just love The Strokes), this one is right up your alley.
8. Christmas In Hollis — Run-DMC
Run DMC and Christmas music may sound like an odd combination at first, but it is anything but. Give this song a listen and decide for yourself.
9. Santa’s Got A Bag Of Soul — The Soul Saints Orchestra
This Christmas song is just the thing you need to add some funk to the holidays!
10. All I Want For Christmas Is You — Mariah Carey
Some of you might be sick of this song, but hey! It ain’t Christmas till you hear Mariah Carey’s silky vocals belting this iconic tune.
And that brings us to the end of my list of Christmas songs that you just can’t do without during the holiday season. So plug in your earphones and get ready for a merry little Christmas!
